Laura Wood kicked off her first concert of the LIVE-A-LITTLE TOUR promoting her new CD to be released by the end of the year - "SYMPATICO SOL". She PACKED the Ithaca, NY COMMON GROUND CLUB on Saturday January 12th and was featured as the BEST BET for the WEEKEND in the ITHACA JOURNAL! The newspaper described her as NEW POP LATIN/JAZZ. A fan wrote the next morning "I had never heard of you before but when I read your bio, I knew I would love the music. I invited a friend along and we were not disappointed. Your soulful voice sent chills down my spine, and your congas rocked my soul! I am a fan for LIFE. Please let me know where you are playing next..." She brought her 3 guitars - 2 Takamine Twelve strings, an Ibanez Nylon string, her LP Congas, Bongos and skillfully managed to accompany herself, switching between all instruments. The crowd gave her 2 Encores and she ended the show lip synching to an unfinished track of the new CD while playing her Conga part...:) Hmmm, could this be a new style of Drag Queen? Laura throws in playful, comical surprises that the audience LOVES! She sold several advance CD sales and several copies of her successful CD South Station Slide that keeps on rollin! Extra thanks goes to Kelly Evans for making the Ithaca dream a reality. A fantastic way to start the tour and I am ecstatic to be a part of it...see you at the next performance!

HIGHLANDS INN, Bethlehem, NH - FIRESIDE MAGIC
The momentum builds!!! The 2nd concert of the LIVE-A-LITTLE TOUR included more encores! Beside a blazing fire, Laura Wood filled The Highlands Inn with her sultry vocals on Saturday, January 26, 2008. Against the backdrop of the brilliant snowy White Mountains, her solo performance wowed the audience, as she switched seamlessly between the acoustic 6-string and 12-strings, and her djembe. She sang several originals including “Heart of the World”, “It’s a Plain Fact”, and “Remember the First Time”, as well as a passionate version of “Let’s Stay Together”, all featured on the upcoming CD, "Sympatico Sol". The women gathered around the stone fireplace in the Great Room especially enjoyed “Boots”, harmonizing and stamping their feet! Several people purchased advanced copies of "Sympatico Sol" as well as Laura’s most recent CD, "South Station Slide". Enthusiastic fans put the "Sympatico Sol" CD fund raising concert at Northampton's Iron Horse Music Hall Sunday, March 30, 2008 on their calendars, excited to hear the music before it's released. Chris Marshak (myspace.com/chrismarshak) is a versatile drummer who performs and records regularly with his brother NYC’s 101.9FM “Best New Smooth Jazz Artist” Matt Marshak. Chris also plays with UK jazz phenomena Peter White, and South African legends bassist Bakithi Kumalo of the Paul Simon Band and saxophonist Morris Goldberg among many others.
Guitarist John Caban (www.johncaban.com) has played and recorded with such musical greats as Bo Diddley, Alana Davis, Art Neville and John Cruz. He is currently touring with Richard Bona, including recording a new live CD “Bona Makes You Sweat,” in Budapest this past December.
Mike Visceglia (www.mikevisceglia.com) has been Suzanne’s Vega’s bass guitarist for 23 years. He has been playing and/or recording for (among others): John Cale, Jorma Kaukonen, Flo & Eddie, Mark Cohn, Phil Collins, Phoebe Snow, Joe Jackson, Al Green, Curtis Stigers, Mitchell Froom, Bette Midler, Richie Havens, Scottie Moore and DJ Fontana.

Imagine 150 gorgeous women and the most wonderful male percussionist in the Keys, rocking on the coolest Catamaran with me on a spectacular day sailing off the southernmost tip of Key West...
I was completely psyched to have all the couples dance to "Let's Stay Together" - see more at www.southernmostgay.com scroll down the photo section to 09/08/2007 to see the photo archive of this event!!!
After the cruise, I loaded up my guitars and congas in the back of my friend's VW Convertable and headed over to AQUA Dance Club where I had been invited to sit in with LORI MICHAELS www.lorimichaelsproductions.com. The place was standing room only wall to wall hot hot hot. I carried one conga and then another as discreetly as possible into the DJ booth where he was cueing up Lori's music. As the tracks started playing I was the masked percussionist behind the stage playing with a wireless microphone - somehow the congas were perfectly in tune with her track -then Lori summoned me and I jumped on stage and the congas magically lifted off the floor by some wonderful surrounding women - Lori sang an unbelievable track and the dancers were let's say, jamming to the congas - thank god I am single...after that we danced on the stage until dawn...a musical magical day and night I will never forget...especially watching the airplane overhead earlier that day with the trailer: "WOMENFEST LIVE ON THE FURY" - the first time I believe in the history of the Key West Fury Catamarans...to be a part of that was just amazing...thanks to Niall and the Key West Business Guild for making it all happen...xoxo L
