Her style of HARMONICA PLAYING ranges from deep roots folk to upbeat pop.
There isn't much LA WOOD has not been able to create musically.
She started performing in second grade on the piano, was taught by Nuns and a Country Guitar player and then a Coffee House performer in Washington DC and Classical guitar in Belgium. She is a seasoned Latin Percussionist and multi-talented guitar player. She had her first gig on a cruise ship at age 13 crossing the Atlantic in the Disco on the SS FRANCE, then began playing professionally at age 19 in Saratoga Springs, NY where she studied music at Skidmore College and performed at Caffe Lena, home to Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan.
From there, started a jazz improv band in Northampton, MA, studied vocal jazz with the legendary Leon Thomas at UMASS Amherst, then moved to NYC and studied Latin Percussion in Harlem with Harry Belafonte's percussionist, Monte Ellison of Brazil 66. After too much city life, moved to a cabin in the woods in MA and wrote lots of songs. From there, moved to Boston where she performed in several clubs and coffeehouses. She wrote more songs, recorded several indie records as a percussionist and vocalist and finished her first full length CD at Signature Sounds in 2000. She has been performing and recording off and on in the Florida Keys since 1993.
She is working in the studio, completing 2 CD's that promise international success. Her largest audience was performing as a Latin Percussionist with the Disco Diva Shannon opening for Gloria Gaynor at Mohegan Sun - 10, 000 people. Other big audiences include many Music Festivals and National Folk Alliance Showcases. Her biggest thrill was playing congas with Ritchie Havens on "Freedom", 12 String guitar in South Station for Boston's 100th anniversary of the Red Line, reflected in her celebrated CD "SOUTH STATION SLIDE" and onboard the boats, the Fast Kat, and the Fury Catamaran for the Southernmost Sunset Sail. Currently, she performs for hundreds of tourists regularly at the Famous BLUE HEAVEN Restuarant, the Piano Bar and Wine Galley at the Pier House in Key West, Florida with guest performances at Sloppy Joe's on Duval St and many other venues.
